Terms & disclaimer

Last updated 28 October 2026. By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What this site is

Batteries in the Ghats is an independent, non-commercial data story by Sanket Tambare about pumped storage projects in Maharashtra's Sahyadri. It compiles public documents (clearance papers, committee minutes, government orders), news reports from a fixed list of outlets, and online research. It is journalism and public-interest research, not an official record.

2. Accuracy

  • I work to be accurate and link every figure to its source, but documents change, sources disagree and mistakes happen. Content is provided "as is", without any warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose.
  • Items added by the daily update are marked "not yet reviewed" until an editor checks them.
  • Claims are labelled documented, reported, alleged or official claim. An allegation is someone's claim, attributed to them. It is not a finding of fact by this site.
  • Estimates (for example forest per GWh or emissions) come from the published method on the Methodology page and are labelled as estimates.

3. Check before you share

This is a live and politically sensitive issue. Before you forward a figure, quote or screenshot, open the linked source and check it yourself, and share it with its context and label. You are responsible for what you publish or forward.

4. Not advice

Nothing on this site is legal, financial, investment, engineering or other professional advice, and nothing here asks anyone to take any action. Talk to a qualified professional before acting on anything you read here.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the author and contributors are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, dispute, legal proceeding or other incident that arises from using this site, relying on its content, or sharing it, whether directly or indirectly.

6. Fairness and right of reply

Developers, agencies and officials named on this site are offered a right of reply (see About). Responses are published next to the claim they answer. Companies and officials are named only in their public role; private individuals are named only where they spoke on the record in a public role.

7. Corrections and takedown requests

Write to daredavil239804@gmail.com with the page, the claim and, if possible, a document. I reply within 7 days, fix what is wrong and note the fix on the page. I review any legal concern promptly and in good faith.

8. Other people's content

  • Links lead to sites I do not control. I am not responsible for their content or availability.
  • Photos are shown from Wikimedia Commons under their own licences; each links to its file page with author and licence.
  • Headlines are quoted as published; summaries are in my own words. Quotes and figures belong to their sources.

9. Reuse

Text and data © Sanket Tambare, licensed under CC BY 4.0: reuse them with credit to "Batteries in the Ghats" and a link. Code is MIT-licensed. Do not present this site's content as an official government record, and do not alter a figure or label when you reuse it.

10. Privacy

The site has no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. Your browser stores a few settings on your own device (theme, language and whether you have seen the first-visit notice). Photos are served from this site; maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address as with any web request. If you email me, I use your email only to reply.

11. Changes

These terms may change as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India.
